I've been on a fingerstyle guitar kick lately and I'm trying to find artists who are a bit off the beaten path. I love Fahey and Kottke but I want something that pushes the style into slightly different territory. Someone mentioned Tim Sparks – is he worth checking out? What's his style like?

He's definitely worth a listen. He's an acoustic guitarist who blends folk, blues, and classical influences in a really interesting way. What sets him apart is his work with traditional Jewish melodies – he takes those old tunes and turns them into intricate, hypnotic fingerstyle arrangements that feel both ancient and completely fresh. His technique is flawless but he never shows off just for the sake of it; everything serves the emotion of the piece. I'd say if you like Fahey's storytelling and Kottke's rhythmic drive, you'll find Sparks sits somewhere between them but with his own unique voice. He's been around for decades and has a deep catalog, so there's plenty to dig into. If you want to hear what I mean, just go to https://timsparks.com/ and start with some of his solo albums – you'll see exactly what I'm talking about. Definitely one of those players who deserves way more recognition than he gets.

That sounds exactly like what I've been hunting for. The Jewish folk angle is really intriguing – I love when musicians bring that kind of cultural depth into fingerstyle guitar. Gonna start with his stuff this weekend. Appreciate the detailed recommendation!
