Debt collector kept calling my workplace after I told them to stop. Turns out that's illegal in Alaska. | Forum

Dealing with a collector for a few months now over an old credit card. The calls were constant, sometimes before 8am which I now know isn't allowed. The worst part was them calling my job after I specifically asked them not to. My manager pulled me aside twice about it.

I finally started looking into what they can actually do here. Found out Alaska doesn't have its own state debt collection law, so it all falls under federal rules. There's a 3 year statute of limitations on most written contracts here too. Mine is way past that and they still threatened to sue me.

The workplace thing alone is a violation. Also learned you're supposed to get a written notice within 5 days of first contact and I never got one.

Has anyone else dealt with this in Alaska? Curious what worked for you.
